BD MAX Enteric Pathogens Panels
Rapid & Accurate
INTRODUCING OUR COMPREHENSIVE STOOL PATHOGEN PANEL
OmniPathology, a leader in GI pathology, has adopted the FDA-cleared BD MAX molecular platform to rapidly and accurately identify the most common bacterial, viral, and parasitic pathogens causing infectious enteritis. Results are available within 24 hours.
Real-time PCR (RT-PCR) is extremely rapid, reproducible, and accurate, and eliminates the need for traditional methods of identification such as culture and microscopy, which can be time consuming, subjective, and dependent on the viability of the pathogens for growth and analysis.
Following IDSA Guidelines, each syndromic panel is specifically designed to identify pathogens with >91.7% positive precent agreement (PPA) and >97.5% negative percent agreement (NPA) compared to standardized reference methods.
The C. difficile assay has a sensitivity of 87.6% and specificity of 95.5% compared against direct and enriched culture reference methods.
BD MAX Enteric Bacterial Panel |
Qualitative detection of bacterial causes of diarrhea including: • Salmonella spp. • Campylobacter spp. (C. jejuni and C. coli) • Shigella spp. and Enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC) • Shiga toxin (stx1/stx2) genes (found in STEC) May be useful in cases where patient has traveled to resource challenged countries and/or is experiencing fever/visible blood in stool/abdominal pain with bloody stools/persistent abdominal pain and fever. |
BD MAX Extended Enteric Bacterial Panel |
Qualitative detection of bacterial causes of diarrhea including: • Pleisiomonas shigelloides • Vibrio spp. (V. vulnificus, V. parahaemolyticus, V. cholera) • Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) heat-labile enterotoxin (LT)/heat-stable enterotoxin (ST) genes • Yersinia enterocolitica May be ordered with the Enteric Bacterial Panel when additional food or waterborne bacteria are suspected, including traveling to resource challenged countries. |
BD MAX Enteric Viral Panel |
Qualitative detection of viral causes of diarrhea including: • Norovirus GI & GII • Rotavirus A RNA • Adenovirus F40/41 • Sapovirus genogroups I, II, IV, V • Human Astrovirus May be useful in cases where the patient is experiencing vomiting and non-bloody diarrhea lasting 2-3 days or less. |
BD MAX Enteric Parasite Panel |
Qualitative detection of parasites causing diarrhea including: • Giardia lamblia • Cryptosporidium (C. hominis and C. parvum) • Entamoeba histolytica May be useful in cases of persistent or chronic diarrhea and where exposure to parasites is suspected, such as travel to resource challenged countries. |
BD MAX CDiff | Qualitative detection of: • Clostridioides difficile toxin B gene (tcdB) May be useful for patients in healthcare/long-term care facilities or who have undergone recent antimicrobial therapy. |
